EXAM FOR CRITICAL STRETCH OF WATERWAY, RHEIN SECTIONS
The following sections of the Rhine have been identified as critical stretch of waterway:
- Upper Rhine: 335.66 - 425.00 rkm (Iffezheim - Mannheim)
- Central Rhine: 498.45 - 592.00 rkm (Mainz - Koblenz)
Application conditions required to register for the exam, subject to submission of a completed and signed application form:
- verify identity,
- European Union boatmasters' certificate, or
- meeting the minimum requirements laid down by law for obtaining EU certificates of competency for boatmasters (authorised to issue a boatmasters' document but not yet requested),
- at least three of the 3 upstream and 3 downstream journeys must have been completed within 3 years prior to the exam (on a craft covered by Directive 2017/2397 as a deck crew member),
- proof that the candidate was in the wheelhouse of the ship during the 3-3 voyages and that on at least one voyage he/she steered the ship and operated the propulsion equipment independently. This proof is provided by attaching a signed declaration issued by the ship's boatmaster or the candidate's employer to the examination application documentation,
- payment of the examination fee.
Exam information
- type of exam: multiple-choice test,
- the examination of the section selected for one day by the candidate is considered as one examination subject,
- candidates are free to choose the section within the subject in their application for admission to the examination (it can be composed of several sections, even with interruptions),
- the section(s) selected within an exam subject are listed on a individually compiled worksheet, so they will be assessed as a whole,
- a question has one correct answer,
- it is considered to be a correct answer if the answer option giving the correct answer is indicated from among the answers to the questions,
- the subject receives a successful grade (M) if the candidate has answered at least 80% of the questions correctly,
- the number of questions within the subject depends on the length of the examination section; the exam contains at least 20 questions,
- if the chosen section is short and the number of exam questions cannot be given, the application will be rejected (this may happen if a section shorter than 20 km is selected),
- the number of questions is as follows:
- -> in 50 kilometers - 20 questions
- -> over 50 km - 0.4 questions/km
During the exam, the candidate has one minute per question and 5 additional minutes (for example: the allowed time for an exam of 50 questions is 55 minutes)
Upon successful completion of the exam, in possession of the boatmaster's certificate, the Hungarian Shipping Examination centre shall, upon request, exchange the certificate for a new, in which the section of critical strech covered by the special permit is entered in the box of the coded individual licences.
